The Mountain Medicine Trail is a collection of destinations throughout Pocahontas, Randolph, and Tucker Counties in West Virginia that celebrate the medicinal plants native to our West Virginia forests.

Appalachian Forest Discovery Center - Elkins, WV
Located in the historic Darden Mill in Elkins, the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center invites you to explore the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area’s rich cultural and forest heritage through our exhibits and programming. Alongside our permanent exhibit on Appalachian forest heritage, a new temporary exhibit goes up every year. Our 2022 season exhibit Plants and People: How plants have shaped culture and tradition explores traditional uses of Appalachian botanicals for food, medicine and material, and the folklore and traditions associated with them.

Frostmore Farm – Dunmore, WV
Located in Pocahontas County, Frostmore Farm is a producer of pure organic WV Maple Syrup and products.  Tour the maple production during Mountain State Maple Days each February and March. They also host a Roadside Stand open year round and they have Blueberry picking in July and a pumpkin patch in fall

Little Levels Depot  - Hillsboro, WV
​Little Levels Depot is a convenience and grocery store  in Pocahontas County. In addition to all the convenience store staples the Deport offers a variety of organic and local products including meat, honey, syrups, and fresh produce. The Levels Depot Café offers fresh baked goods and organic coffee and teas. 

Still Hollow Spirits – Randolph County, WV
Still Hollow Spirits in Job, WV is a farm to bottle distillery located high in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia specializing in traditional mountain style whiskeys and unique botanical infusions. We combine pure spring water with fresh local ingredients to craft one of a kind small batch spirits.

Those in the know have heard of the fine moonshine crafted in the mountain hollows of WV.  The moonshining tradition has thrived in the mountains and local knowledge still produces fine spirits. We aim to continue this tradition, growing our own WV heirloom corn and supporting local farmers with top dollar for their grains, while filling bottles with one-of-a-kind mountain whiskey.

As fifth generation West Virginians we are proud of our product and our home state. We strive to use our land and resources as efficiently as possible and support our local farming economy. The distillery is located on the Job Farm, in Job, WV. Bloody Butcher corn is grown onsite, with help from the whole family. We will utilize our crop to make our “mash,” then afterward feed the spent mash to our cattle, who naturally fertilize our soil and provide us with great beef—a perfect nutrient cycle.

Valley Fitness Club – Randolph County, WV

Valley Fitness Club opened its doors on December 10, 2022 to the town of Mill Creek, West Virginia, offering the community enhanced access to health and wellness. Located on Seneca Trail in Mill Creek, community members have the opportunity to engage in a cutting edge training facility that offers an open gym, nutritional consulting, personal training and fitness classes.

Laurel River Club Bed and Breakfast – Randolph County, WV 
Laurel River Club Bed and Breakfast in Jenningston, WV is surrounded by a 200-acre educational farm and has been called "Cutting Edge Agritourism." As if that wasn't enough, throw in the Dry Fork River for fishing and swimming, three state parks and access to over 920,000 acres of national forest, and you have a paradise for outdoor lovers!

A farm fresh breakfast is free with each room, but we also offer packed lunches and dinner for those who want to make the most of their time here on the farm. All food is farm to fork and made from scratch with seasonal ingredients.

Combining the best of what they have to offer with local partners, Laurel River Club BnB and Laurel Fork Educational farm offers guests experiences in preserving food, sustainable farming, falconry, culinary classes, health and beauty product creation, husbandry, and fishing.

Poe Run Craft and Provisions – Randolph County, WV
Poe Run Craft and Provisions provides lodging and nutrient dense food in Elkins, WV and they have integrated MMT into their Legacy Garden, which honors those who love plants and gardening. In coming months they plan to include updates and interpretive information on our website and social media about medicinal plants. They showcase their plantings of Ginseng, Goldenseal, and Black Cohosh with signage on the property for a walking tour of medicinal and forage plants such as witch hazel, ramps, yarrow, bee balm and more. 
 
Poe Run is a partial off-grid nonprofit organization that offers WV style homestead experiences through our Airbnb and small-batch artisanal foods. We believe in the power of art, food, nature, and community to make us all healthier, happier, and more connected.  
 
From organic duck eggs and chicken, to lamb and and gourmet garlics, to wool and unique sheepskins when you buy our products, you take a bit of the homestead home. Other customer favorites are our organic chicken, blueberry products, dried herb seasonings, and ramp salt. Behind-the-Scenes Homestead Tours and Weekend Homesteader Immersion experiences are also available. Visits are by appointment.

​Shady Grove Botanicals - Pickens / Helvetia, WV
Shady Grove Botanicals is a small, family business offering a variety of herbal products from local, ethically grown and harvested non-timber forest products.  They offer local seed and planting stock for at-risk medicinal plants such as ginseng and goldenseal, and produce organically grown vegetables and industrial hemp. Their farm features a primitive and off-grid bunk house for overnight guests. 

Yew Mountain Center - Hillsboro, WV
The Yew Mountain Center (YMC) is on a  500-acre nature preserve among the forests and farms of West Virginia. It is created and run by the local community to be a place for learning about the rich natural and cultural heritage of this Appalachian region and to be a part of the way forward to a prosperous and sustainable future in these mountains and beyond. The 6-bedroom lodge offers accommodations to individuals or groups.
